PIM-SHOOTER™
Low Cost Injection Molding Machine
Plastic injection molding is used to create a large variety of plastic products with different shapes and sizes, from toys and model parts to furniture and building materials. But injection molding is not just for big corporations with large budgets. The PIM-SHOOTER™ Model 20A brings low cost injection molding to home shops or small businesses.
This unique new accessory turns your workshop drill press into an efficient plastic injection molding machine. You simply supply the drill press and mold clamp. The PIM-SHOOTER™ starter package gives you EVERYTHING ELSE you will need to immediately start producing your own plastic parts.
If you are designing prototype parts, this machine will save tons of turn-around time waiting for the parts to be made by an outside firm. Or you can use this fun machine to make money producing small plastic parts and selling them. This machine could easily pay for itself on the very first project!

Here’s how the PIM-SHOOTER™ works: Simply tighten the shaft into the drill press chuck and plug the unit into an appropriate AC outlet. Once the injector is hot enough, you are ready to make countless thermoplastic parts with the included aluminum mold. Nothing could be simpler!
This is what you get with your Model 20A PIM-SHOOTER™ purchase:
· Injector machine.
· Digital temperature controller.
· 10 oz. bag of plastic pellets.
· Pellet dispenser jar (style may vary).
· Sample mold, purging block and nozzle centering ring.
· Protective gloves and safety glasses.
· 24-page Instruction manual.
And this is what you will need to supply:
· Drill press with at least 3” of spindle travel and at least 13” clearance from the chuck to the table.
· Drill press vise or C-clamps to hold the mold closed.
· Hot air gun, hair dryer or hot plate to pre-heat the mold.
Injector Components
DRILL PRESS: The drill press is used to hold the injector and to provide the ram motion and pressure during injection. The drill press is NOT included with the PIM-SHOOTER™ machine and must be supplied by the user. Note: The drill press must have at least 13 inches of clearance between the chuck and the drill press table.
DRILL CHUCK: The drill chuck is part of the drill press that is supplied by the user. It is used to clamp onto the ram shaft. The chuck must be able to hold a 3/8 inch shaft and be able to travel 3 inches to get a full shot.
RAM & RAM SHAFT: During injection as the drill chuck moves downward, the ram travels into the barrel to force thermoplastic material into the mold. The spring provides pressure to hold the nozzle against the mold and returns the ram and ram shaft after the injection cycle. Because of the large forces during injection, the ram shaft must be firmly secured in the drill chuck.
TOP HOLDER & HANDLE: The top holder is attached to the feeder funnel and it guides the ram into the barrel during the injection cycle. NOTE — the top holder can become hot while operating the machine. Do not touch either the top holder or feeder funnel when the heater has been on. Use the handle to stabilize the injector if needed.
FEEDER: The feeder funnel is where un-melted pellets are added to the injector. The funnel shape directs the pellets into the barrel. NOTE — The feeder can become hot while operating the machine. Do not touch the feeder funnel and always use the dispensing container to add pellets to the feeder.
BARREL & HEATER: The barrel is where the thermoplastic pellets get melted so the molten plastic can be injected into the mold. The barrel has a heater and thermocouple which allows the temperature controller to maintain the barrel temperature setpoint.
NOZZLE & RING: The nozzle has been designed to deliver molten plastic to the mold and to prevent un-melted pellets from entering the mold. The nozzle ring is used with the mold and with the purging block. The ring helps align the nozzle with the opening in the top of the mold.
MOLD: A sample mold is provided with the purchase of the PIM-SHOOTER™ machine (Additional molds can be purchased - See accessories below). The mold consists of two halves that need to be securely clamped together using either a drill press vise or with C-clamps (supplied by the user). The mold can become hot enough to cause burns, so always use protective gloves when handling the mold.
Accessory Items
Your PIM-SHOOTER™ purchase includes several accessories to help get you started with molding plastic parts:
PROTECTIVE GLOVES: The metal parts of the injector, the mold and the molten plastic are all extremely hot during operation and can cause burns. ALWAYS wear protective gloves when operating this machine and when handling molds.
PROTECTIVE GLASSES: ALWAYS wear protective glasses when operating this machine.
PLASTIC PELLETS: A sample supply of plastic pellets is included for use with the sample mold. Additional pellets that are approved for use with the PIM-SHOOTER™ injection molding machine can be purchased below.
DISPENSER: The dispenser is used to load the plastic pellets into the feeder of the injector. During operation, the feeder funnel can be hot enough to cause burns. Always use the dispenser to load pellets into the feeder. Note: the style of dispenser may vary from the one shown in the photo.
SAMPLE MOLD: The sample mold allows you to get started with injection molding right away. Additional mold designs or mold blanks can be purchased below. Note: LNS Technologies does not produce custom molds for customers. We recommend that you use a tooling source in your area or contact: Herrmann Engineering if you need a custom mold.
PURGING BLOCK: The purging block is used both during the packing step and during the purging operation.
NOZZLE RING: The nozzle ring is designed to be used with both the mold and with the purging block. The ring makes it easy to center the injector nozzle over the hole in the mold and over the hole in the purging block during molding and purging operations.
Notices
Even though the PIM-SHOOTER™ is a simple machine to operate, it is NOT A TOY. As with all machinery, there are certain hazards involved with the operation of the product.
